My Walking Stick

Remember what I said yesterday about my legs falling off? Multiply that by ten, and that's how I feel today. I feel like one of those old people who just hobbles around with a cane.

I'm remembering that Leon Redbone concert I went to a few years ago for some reason. Sad to hear of Scott Black having a falling-out with him. I guess Redbone has a drinking problem. It's not part of the act, then...it's a shame. It was a really enjoyable concert, just Redbone and Black and Cindy Cashdollar, up in Akron. I can't remember what year it was, though, but I'm sure it's in my old blog entries.

So we're planning possible vacations now, the family and myself. And we're thinking maybe NYC again. We'd like to see Les Paul before he kicks the bucket, and we'd love to see Jon Stewart and/or Stephen Colbert (but my brother's too young to get in...). I hate to say it, because I do love Jon, but if forced to pick, I'd rather go to Stephen's show. (I remember when The Colbert Report premiered, and I hated it. I hated it for taking Stephen away from The Daily Show and This Week In God and his correspondent duties. I thought there was no way he could carry a whole show by himself. How wrong I was.) Besides, I've already seen Jon Stewart live (standup routine in Cleveland in early 2004), but I've never seen Colbert. I also keep hoping to be one of the lucky audience members to get high-fived. That would be so awesome...

Kendo practice today with Nagata(?)-sensei was interesting. The man was a crazy-fast kendoka. I just about died at practice. I'm too aerobically unfit for kendo, I swear. I'll need to start distance running or something. Or doing push-ups.

Fun stuff: Teaching a native Japanese speaker about the finer points of the English words "bullshit" and "ass-backwards".  And U.S. holidays.

Of note: Kototsu. I want one. They're amazing. Also: I ate octopus today. Takoyaki. Woohoo. Now I have something to say in Japanese class when the teacher goes "先週の週末、何をしましたか."
